As mass storage formats, CD ROM and DVD give us the ability to include large amounts of video, audio, documents and images in a single packaged product for distibution and playback on users' computers.
I produced this for the Western Cape Education Department as a resource for teachers and parents. Authored using Flash.
This cross-platform CD ROM combines the functionality of a digital media pack with a distinctive brand experience. It contains press releases and photographs for the target audience of journalists and media producers to save to disk and use in articles. Authored using Macromedia Director in collaboration with Chalk Design and sploosh.
Like the Cape Legends CD ROM (above), this product was aimed at journalists and media producers, for the launch of a new label from Le Bonheur wine estate. Authored using Macromedia Director in collaboration with Chalk Design.
The promoters of Essential Mix commissioned me to produce a CD ROM they could give to their sponsors (Heineken), reflecting the success of the relationship and the parties. The CD ROM contained press clippings, flyers, photographs from the parties, and a killer soundtrack.
I produced this CD ROM as an interactive presentation which the company directors could leave with stakeholders interested in their programme.

I used Macromedia Director to create this, and designed it to allow for easy updates by keeping much of the content in external casts and XML files. I devised some sprite behaviors to help create dynamic movement with the designs.

I used Macromedia Director for its ability to write to a local file. I created a series of six character based screens with some simple animations, which changed colour on each appearance. The emphasis was on entertaining young schoolgoers who would download the screensaver to count down to the last day of the school holidays.

I developed the CD ROM presentation using Macromedia Director and Flash, working closely with the designer who created the interface. I then integrated the content into a website using HTML, JavaScript and Flash..

I integrated the various media elements (video, audio and photgraphs) from the screen design into the final product on CD ROM, using Macromedia Director and Flash. This included developing the CD ROM's technical architecture and designing the presentation's navigation element.
CD ROM and DVD are still the best formats for the distribution of many types of interactive content.
CD or DVD stored content will ensure fast playback for the user, and a better user experience. No long waits for downloads or broken internet connections.
A disk is self-contained so users don't need an internet connection to experience your content.
Digital content can provide an enhancement to the information in a print publication. More detailed explanations, search, cross references and dynamic layering of information are all ways that CD ROM can add to the reader's experience and understanding.
As an interactive format, CD ROM or DVD allows for learning activities such as role playing, interactive narratives, quizzes and demonstrations that can improve the learning experience.
CD ROMs can be packaged and branded and handed to people that you meet face to face. A CD can create a more personal and tangible connection than a website address.
